Before you spend too much money, do a search for a rudder position indicator.
There are simple mechanical ones that simply stick to the hub of your steering wheel and use gravity to show how much it turns.
I had one of these on a houseboat for many years. It worked well.
Very easy to install, cheap and nothing much to go wrong.
I was very happy with mine.

Hi, I am planning to do this at some point as well.
My plan was to find the best suitable point either directly on the steering arm or alternatively on the hydraulic mechanism connected to the steering arm.
Objective is to find the best spot that provides you with most angle reading. I will post Pictures when I have done it.
