Choke plate question on a 3.0l-gctid397789

I have a 185 with a 3.0l and two barrell carb. It also has the TKS sytem. I have been having problems so wanted to check the choke. My question is this does the temp of the air cause the chooke to stay open? here is why, I took of the flame arrestor and the choke was wide open. I then engaged the key with no change in the choke. I then started it with no change. So does this mean I have a choke that is stuck open or was it just because it was over 90 degrees when I was working on it?

There is no choke chimney nor choke plate on the TKS system.

This system enriches the fuel mixture (for cold starts) via fuel metering controlled by an electric solenoid.

Ok,maybe I don't have a tks. It's a 2006 so I thought it was standard. I do have a choke housing that is hooked to a 12v wire. I also have a choke plate. So let's assume it's not a tks but a standard choke. So my question is the same only with out the tks. Any ideas?

The only thing that I can suggest, is that you set/adjust this while the engine is cold.

The "Helix" heating element will cause the helix to pull the choke off as it heats up.... if all is working!

It should remain OFF/Open during normal operation.

Ok great thanks. One follow question, should the choke plate be closed if the engine is cool ie it hasnt been run in sever days, matter how hot it is out side?

Is the choke plate wired open ? I have seen that on Fl boats.

No the choke plate will close if I push it with my finger. It does seem to stay open at all times.

What do you think I need a new helix coil thingie?

Maybe a piece of linkage fell off.
