We have a 2012 with 3.0. I did a lot of research on that boat and power plant. That little engine is really a "workhorse". We don't ski or wakeboard, so it is plenty of power for us. Performance was great,y improved with the addition of Smart Tabs and a 4-blade prop. Easy to work on, no problem getting parts, everyone knows how to fix them as well. Compared to the 4.3, the disadvantage in my opinion is the low end torque to pull skiers...but I guess the 3.0 does pull skiers when asked to. This thing sips gas too. Run it hard all day and cost you about $25 in fuel....
We love ours...

My '98 has close to 3000 hours on it, still economical. If you do a lot of water sports, consider a 4 blade prop for better starts.
I normally use the original 3 blade prop for better economy and lower RPM since it only takes a few minutes to change props. The 4 blade uses a little more fuel because it turns at higher RPM for the same speed. A hydrofoil or smart tabs is less expensive than trim tabs and reduces bow rise: really important for water sports when you spend more time at planning speed.
