I am new to the stern drive community. i have a 1989 2655 Sunbridge. I am having trouble getting it to go into reverse, forward works real good. Is this a cable adjustment problem? This is a 5.7L with the OMC Cobra outdrive. Is there a replacement for the outdrive i.e volvo that does not require the replacement of the transom plate?

There are other threads about it as well. I just received my new transom shift cable in the mail this past week and have yet to get it apart. Nervous as all heck to do it, but will hopefully get going on it this week. Good luck in reading. Lots of stuff. The folks here are awesome about providing help though, so don't be shy about asking questions.
