Tach(s) problem-gctid808505

Hi

My flybridge has two tachs. Both have the same behavior, they occasionally show 50-100% too much. They both do it, but whether they do it fully in sync, I don't know. When cruising at almost WOT, the tach(s) can show 6000 rpm, a few seconds later they show the correct (I think) 4200 rpm.

I've just replaced my distributor and coil, for other reasons, but that didn't change this symptom, it was there before, and it's still there.

Any ideas?

Look at the back of the tach, cycle the switch a few times back and forth for the amount of cylinders your engine has and then set the switch to the amount of cylinders you have.
Be good, be happy, for tomorrow is promised to no man !

From reading the rest of this, you apparently have a single engine. Can you explain why this boat has two tachometers?
It has two tachs because it's a flybridge, it has two of everything, but only one engine 454.

From post #1, you say; "Hi My flybridge has two tachs."

Now I understand that you were refering to both the lower and the upper station tachometers!

Most of the times when I have any electrical issues, I have found that it's usually something simple like a bad ground wire. Like a previous person said trace the wires and make sure they are connected and the terminals are clean. I always like to start with the simplest things and work my way up from there. Kind of a pain but may work. Good luck.
