Hi all. I am preparing for a repower and was getting close to pulling the trigger in a new Merc 496 HO 425hp for the tune of $21k. I just stumbled across a recent repower thread on another local board about a guy with a 300hp FNM diesel for roughly the same money. While I would love the extra ponies to get my 2859 on step from the gasser, I would love the fuel economy of the diesel. I would be standing to gain a more than double MPG with the diesel. I would only technically be losing 10 HP from my current 7.4 MPI and have plenty of torque. It will bolt up directly to my current B2 drive. The motor is 300 lbs less than my 7.4 and with the added economy, I can quit carrying an extra 60-90 gallons of fuel on my deck. That weight loss would certainly make up for those lost 10 HP. Im curious though about anyone's experiences with FNM diesels, or horror stories. Thanks.

I doubt you will find anyone here using one. Maybe a member in Europe.
From what I read I like.
Maybe they read that way because they are that way. Boat Diesel for one should give straight dope.

How about a Hyundai Seasall S270 in your 2859, maybe half the cost.
All though packing twin S250, but that is a 15,000 lbs heavy Bertram,
with no trim tabs down, she jumps on plane less than 2 seconds
Very impressive...never seen a big flybridge boat move that quick...

Well....after going in and talking face to face with the dealer and inspecting a shiny new engine in a crate, I pulled the trigger on the FNM 300. The dealer runs them in his charter boat and services them as well. The numbers I've seen just look too good to not give it a shot. Hopefully in 3 weeks or so, I will be sea trialing it and post some numbers of my own. I think the last time I was this excited/ nervous was when I heard "honey Im pregnant" lol
