    cabin floor repair 1998 trophy 2002 model-gctid397313

purchased the boat about a month ago, the cabin floor is soft. basically the floor is rotted and is plywood with a thin sheet of plastic on the top. the table holder screws are rotted and i pulled it out it looks sound from about 4-6 inches in from either sid eof the seats. i plan to cut this area out and use the snap down carpet as a template to cut a new floor to place.

has anyone done this? any good photos? any advise?

Hahaha I am doing this exact thing to my 1992 2002 WA. I dont have the funds as of now to do the marine ply/resin complete rip up, so I got a piece of 3/4 inch exterior ply, cut it to fit, primed the snot with kilz oil based primer and then rustoleum marine oil based paint. Multiple thick coats of each. I even sprayed some plasty dip rubber paint on the bottom. Right now I just have it loose in there as I am waiting on my carpet to arrive. I am not going to screw it down as I cut an approx 12x12 hole around the table hole to get most the rot out. The rest of the floor is pretty sound. I am just going to use thick, and I mean THICK beads of silicone caulk to set it on the floor so its solid and sealed tight to the existing floor.

same with me on the funds, plus i don't want the boat in a shop for an extended period of time, i am planning on doing the samething this morning, i am glad you responded because i went through this a 1000+ times in my head and was thinking i would leave the rot but i feel like it will continue and full into the hull and make a clog.

i am going to try and cut a template of the floor as tight to the corners as possible so it looks like an original fit. samething on my end, i plan on sealing it as best i can then either put carpet on it or screw down snaps for the original carpet.

the underneath portion i am going to try and dry as best and seal that area so it won't continue the rotting where i cut it. everything else seems secure and sound it just seems like it is the 2x2 area where the table post secures into the floor.

i will try to remember to take some photos too and post them.

After I cut my hole, I put a fan in there and parked bow WAY up for a long time. It eventually dried out under there. Its just a floating piece of wood, but they used gel coat to cover it and I dont feel like taking that on (cutting it out). It worked well today (my floor on top).

i cut a perfect, i mean perfect template; i took it to a mechanic that i use locally that doesn't BS and showed him and explained what i was thinking (he has worked on the boat before and knew of the issue); he said he wouldn't charge alot especially since i had the template already to bring it back. he is going to cut the area out, rout out the corners which are attached to the hull, take my template and use the West System Eposy on it. he said it will be like a sheet of steel when he is done. taking it to him Monday. more then what i wanted to get into. also, the fishwell pump and bilge pump aren't working correctly. i need to get a fresh water pump installed too.

i need to go by auto zone and find a seal for the fishwell covers; they keep filling with fresh water off the deck. i used some door rubber sealer, wasn't thick enough and leaked like crazy still. (do you have this problem?) any fix you know of? i saw some fixes on this site but the taco tape is pricy so i used some cheaper door stuff to see if it would work, then i would buy the better stuff, didn't work like i said.

So how is this project going? I havent really done anything to mine yet, other than the cut out piece just covering the existing floor. Where are you/this guy located that is doing the work and how much is the new floor going to cost? I like what you are having done with yours. My fish lockers are filling up and its kind of a pain. I have heard to just get some very thick seal tape from home depot and it helps. I get it when the scuppers backflow onto the deck and then it fills the lockers. My livewell also fills up as I travel. I think its due to the fact that the drain is below the waterline. (Poor design).
