  • Running cables and wires from stern to lower helm 2858 / 288-gctid803036

I could sure use some pointers from someone who has had to install sounders or power cables to lower helm on the 2858. Can it be done by removing the refer only?

2858/288. Very easy to run wires. Remove the access hatch on the flybridge, feed wires down the PVC tube at the interior base of the radar arch. That will drop the wires out behind the shower insert or fridge, I can't remember???? At any rate remove the toilet paper holder in the head, you should have plenty of room to navigate a fish tape.

I moved this topic to the technical discussion area. It may get more answers that way.

First of all, please fill in your profile and signature. This way we know what boat you have, year, etc, as well as where you are located. You will get better answers that way.

You should start a new topic in the motoryacht section.

Say again, run up to radar arch to get to lower helm? And of course I am running transducer cables - rear to front.

Nope not up to radar arch inch:

STBD side, thru the head, behind the fridge, follow your existing throttle/ shift cables.

Now I can't seem to pass a cable or fish tape down the tube from the bridge, jeez all I need up there is a transducer cable.............

Oops, I didn't read the question closely, but still.....remove the TP holder to gain access to that strech of the void from LOWER STATION to transom. For the interior run all you need to do is remove the drawers from the cabinet and then push your cables towards the fridge, come from the other direction with a stiff wire fish tape, attach your wires and pull through. If you can't get it without removing the fridge then remove the fridge...its a few screws and it slides out, adds about 30 mins to the project. If you are running cables bottom to top or top to bottom then the PVC pipe in the radar arch should drop you right behind the shower insert. Point is it's not that difficult in a 288 or 2858 to run forward and aft, topside and below decks and port to starboard. There are 2 access hatches on the flybridge that open to grant appropriate topside access.

Well there was no getting a transducer cable up the tube in the fly bridge so I ran it to the lower helm with the other transducer cable and pulled the a pillar cover off and the first ceiling panel with the speakers in it and ran it up the a pillar and bore a 1 inch hole up that will open up at the highpoint of the starboard corner front lip of the foot well under the upper helm. That is where I will also pass the VHF cable from the lower helm to the radar arch. There was no room left in that tube no matter what. This was an easier fix to reach my goal of sounder cable to the bridge.

Has anyone else found that removing the toilet paper holder was a nightmare? Did they use a whole tube of 4200?
