mercruiser 170, how do I find the TDC on the compression stroke for installing rocker-gctid396918

I need to adjust the valves after reinstalling them and didnt pay attention to the valve order before reinstalling the head DUH, it is supposed to be the #1 piston TDC on the compression stroke, would that be with both valves closedand the pushrods all the way down and the piston all the way up

ok figured out the valve order front to back I E I E I E I E, intake valves are a little shorter than exhaust, but how do I tell TDC, where do the pushrods need to be when piston is all the way up,

There is no valve adjustment as such on a 470. You can bleed down the lifter and measure the gap, if its out of range you need diff. length pushrod. As to how to find tdc there are several ways. Easiest is to find timing marks on balancer. 0 is tdc. Rotate engine a few times, watching the valves go up and down, till you are sure you are on the comp stroke ie both valves closed on #1.

      hope this helps.
