    SBC fuel pump drive pin-gctid800701

hello all I have converted my small block Chevy to an electric fuel pump system I plan on keeping the mechanical fuel pump in my spare parts container in the boat with me for backup. My question is can I safely leave the drive pin/shaft in the motor with the pump off the motor so that way it'll be in there if I ever have to switch to the mechanical pump on the water or should I just keep it with the pump in my spare parts container

I'd keep it with the pump, it could likely live within its bore without an issue unless it's in there stationary for many many years. Oil build up on the top side may make it difficult to get moving again. Just my thoughts.

I would leave it in the motor behind a block off plate. My thinking is that it will stay in an oil bath and not likely to rust or get stuck in there.
