Looking for advise on how to solve a problem with my fathers boat. It's 2001 2455 Ciera. Trim tabs work but not the gauge. What steps should I take to check? What would I be looking for with the wiring? Want to make sure I have everything checked before replacing the gauge itself. Thanks in advance.

Most boats trim tabs do not have a gauge.
The typical boat trim gauge is an indication of the angle of the outdrive controlled by a small switch typically on the throttle lever.
Are you sure you have a trim tabs gauge ?
In the photo below the two 2" gauges just below and to the left and right of the large 4" gauge in the center are my trim gauges for the outdrive positions.
To the far right on the dash panel to the right of my Navman fish finder is my Trim Tab position indicator.
