  • How to trouble shoot a/c ?-gctid395062

I have a 2000 Maxum 3300 which I just purchased. The A/C does not pump water when I turn it on so I turn it off to save damaging things.

How can I begin to trouble shoot this. I am not familiar with marine A/C.

    Thanks,

    AL

sometimes you need to sort of prime an a/c system to get it to pump water. On my 3055 I had to remove the outlet hose, then when she started to blast water (i do mean blast), I hooked the hose back up. Unfortunatly I burned up a 300 dollar pump before I figured that out.

If your pump isnt moving water, check to make sure its not seized, it doesnt take much to do it to certain pumps. If the impellar spins freely and it seems ok (you should be able to hear if its moving water or if the impellar is stuck, I could), I would check to make sure the seacock is open and the strainer is clean. If you are good there, make sure your getting water to the pump, it should be below the waterline so water should be right there. If you have water to the pump, try removing the hose to the outlet of the pump, turn the a/c on, then when water starts flowing out of the pump reinstall the hose, check for water flow outside now. If theres no flow, keep going down the line, your next stop is your a/c coil water inlet.

If your pump is dead, you can replace them with an assortment of different makes and prices, search around.

What he said ^^^Mine will not run first time I put the boat in the water without priming first. Once primed, she is good for the season.

I winterize and summerize the water system, head and AC system on the marina owners 3200 Maxum. The AC system does have a shut off valve between the two engines. The pump does ony come on when the AC or heat is needed, the pump and fan shut down if not needed. The marina air unit will shut down if cooling water is needed and the pump does not come on. I forget the error code for this, I had to replace his pump a year ago.
