    Boat Electrics...-gctid394548

So I have two batteries in my 2450 Bayliner. I have a standard Perco switch allowing me to select Bty 1, 2 or both as well as turning them all off. I'm thinking of putting in a battery isolator or and ACR. I'd like to be able achieve two things: firstly connect one charger to the system and charge both batteries appropriately and secondly I'd like to run everything on the boat off the house, deep-cycle battery and only the engine on the starting battery. Given the switch I have it seems everything runs off the battery/ies I have selected with the Perco switch.

My question is... how do I separate those circuits that I want to run off the house battery from the engine circuit?

You could do this with a little creative wiring and a good bit of fooling around and making choices on what must be powered by which battery, but I am not sure why you would want to do it. Why throw away the ability to start the boat from the backup battery ? People went out of their way to make sure you can do this in a pinch.

The starting battery probably needs to run anything powered by the ignition switch plus the horn, nav lights, marine radio, radar etc..

Like I said, you will have a lot of choices to make and a lot of fooling around if you decide to have separate power systems.

      • Correct.
      • You leave as is, and select bank #2.

You can still use the ACR (for engine alternator charging), and a 2 bank charger while on shore power.

I agree with Mike. There is good reason for it being this way.
