If you are replacing the hose and shift cable, can't you cut them and get at the nut with a socket?

The shift cable is brand new...to remove it I have to take off the gimbal housing, which I guess I could do then maybe I could get a socket on it but to tell you the truth I dont think a socket will do because the nut is recessed and there is no clearance to even get a socket on...I will try to send a picture of the situation, I am way frustrated.
