1989 OMC 5.7 engine is out cant get off the shift cable hose from the inner transom,,whats the trick, i cant get a wrench on it becasue it recessed, and get a socket on it becasue of the shift cable...I removed the y pipe still no luck...which tool..do I use to get acess to the nut..do i have to remove the inner transom housing also?

If you are replacing the hose and shift cable, can't you cut them and get at the nut with a socket?

The shift cable is brand new...to remove it I have to take off the gimbal housing, which I guess I could do then maybe I could get a socket on it but to tell you the truth I dont think a socket will do because the nut is recessed and there is no clearance to even get a socket on...I will try to send a picture of the situation, I am way frustrated.

I am not familiar with your set up but would a socket with a cable slot work?
