    88 Bayliner 2459 Trophy Propellers-gctid391438

I need some help. I put a 383 stroker in my 2459 Cabin Cruiser and now I need to figure out the right prop for it. I had a 15x17 and a 15 1/2x15 and those only pushed me around 32mph at WOT. What would be the best one for this? The engine makes best power around 4800RPM but I can't get it to go past 4000RPM. What would be my best bet???

No expert here but if you've got a 383 hooked to a 15.5 x 15 and only get 4,000 rpm wot there is something up....are you sure the tach is accurate? Hook an electric tach to the engine to get a real reading.

I've got an '88 2160 w/a new 350 hooked to a 15x15 and a factory tach that gets stuck at 3,100. Previously I used my mech's electric tach to get a true reading on wot rpm before the old 305 bit it. Still in the break in so wot is not possible but the 15x15seems to turn too fast for the new engine bye ear.

Your mph seems strange and wot rpm doesn't make sense. Make sure your readings are correct.

My guess is a 19 pitch three blade should be appropriate unless your weight is way over factory due to water rot.

I never gave it any thought to the tach maybe going bad. But it never seems like it is over reving or tacking out to high. I have even checked my timing to see if maybe that was not right which was not allowing me to go high. I will have to ask around to see if maybe some of my local marinas have a couple props I can try out.

I did try a 4 blade stainless and the improved my top speed some but the rpms went down. I don't know what the pitch is cause there are no mumbers or anything located on it. So this has me stumped big time.

Even if your tach is reading wrong your speed is down. With either of those props and all that engine your boat should rev high and fly. So your tach is probably right.

Something is up with the engine imo. I am sure the experts will tell you to use the manual and go through the trouble shooting steps for low wot.

I am running a 14-1/2 x 19 cupped stainless with a stock 351W and with a light load, flat water and trimmed near the point of ventilating it will make 40 mph at 4600 rpm although I only did it twice for testing.

With a 383 in my set up it could get scary. You definitely have something fishy going on.

Maybe i'll try to find something similar to what your going with. Mine is identical to yours. I could turn all the way up to 6000 RPM if I could get it right but then i'm pretty sure that the out drive will blow right off the back of the boat. I'm hoping that it is something simple cause I put 10K into redoing everything this past winter.
