I'm coming here to admit my mistake. I hope nobody else makes this one. :-)

I purchased a quart of Adhesive M. I see it used in the manual for just about any bolt or rubber gasket that needs to stay put and can't leak gas, oil or water. I thought it might be good to stop possible water intrusion in my outdrive. I used it on my gimbal housing to outdrive gasket last night. I needed to remove the outdrive today and spent over two hours cleaning both surfaces. :-( I caution against using this on paper gaskets or on parts you'll need to revisit again.

    Oooops.

At the end of day that would be most valuable as often, upon skimming the forums for solutions to problems I find the one post that lets me know I did the exact one thing I shouldnt have done.

I luckily still have a can of OMC gasket sealer. But when that runs out I will use Permatex Aviation Form A Gasket which appears to behave basically the same. Easy on, easy off, and easy to clean up.

I do love the stuff. I couldn't imagine anything stickier. It really works well for sticking rubber seals and things. I just did my water pump and that seal didn't move at all. :-)

I second that idea for a forum

I have a feeling I'd have a LOT of topics to post there.
