    Lowrance fuel sensor-gctid390143

    Hi

I have a Lowrance EP60 sensor, the install is correct with a pre screw on filter, upright and the flow in the correct direction.

I checked the 2452 today after some bad weather and fired her up and the sensor is not showing a flow at idle, if i rev the engine it will show a flow reading.

Now i am concerned of the accuracy when i have been cruising and the total fuel used etc.

    Any views appreciated.

If you have a carburated engine, the float will be closed for a period, then open (showing fuel flow), then it will close again for a period. So, it's possible for the fuel flow to be zero.

Ultimately, you want to fill the tank, run the boat, fill it again and see if the fuel fill quantity equals what the Lowrance gauge says. This is how you learn whether the sensor is calibrated correctly. Follow the instructions for adjusting the calibration. I usually don't mess with it if it's off by (only) a gallon or so.

Be aware that teflon tape or other material can get into those sensors, causing failure. Most people put a filter in front of the sensor to prevent this problem. (and avoid teflon tape)

I have 2 of those sensors on my boat and even at 500 rpm they work. I would call Lowrance and see what they have to say, I think the sensor could be defective.

To the other poster; This sensor only reads fuel being used it does not keep track of the fuel left in the tank for that you need another sensor, ep-65r, I have that one also but only on one tank. The tank that my generator takes fuel from, the generator does not go through the fuel flow meter.

It won't measure flow below .3 GPH.

Mine only reads to .36 and will behave similarly at idle especially after gassing it a little. These are great and seem to work pretty well although I can't seem to "fill tank" on it. Also find that I occassionally have to undo power supply to get it to read as it will occasssionly just flash or show no units (often after stressing battery with a low voltage start).

Buddy had a 28 foot classic and ran a full tank down to less than a gallon, and sure enough the math indicated meter was perfectly correct after the fill. I don't recommend this!!!!

If you get the fuel flow and the tank capacity gauge the system works perfect has for me going on 4 years now.
