I am currently working on my 1989 2150, and its come time to change the oil. After a hour of pumping out oil Ive changed the filter, but cant find a definitive oil type to use. Does any one know what oil I should use for a 1989 351(5.8l) OMC Cobra?
OMC recommended a straight 30, you could use that, a straight 40 if not boating in cooler temps, or the Merc 25/40 oil. I would not use automotive multi-vis oils such as 5w30 or 10W30 because they thin out under sustained high rpm use in marine engines. I like Chevron Delo 400 straight weight.
