  • Gas fume in cabin 2855 1992-gctid387149

    Hi everyone.

New member here and new old boat. Bayliner 2855 1992 Ciera. I have a quite strong fume of gas under the stairs for the front bed and in the kitchen/pentry lockers. Nothing or very weak smell behind the toilet and mid berth.

What to do? I have checked the main hose for fuel filling and it is ok. Also the ventilation hose is good.

Sorry for my english, since I live in Norway,- its my second language.

I can see no signs of leak with gas.. only the smell. I must also say that I filled it up with 320 liters yesterday..

Is it a big job to remove the wall from the mid berth to access the tank?

How sure are you about the fill hose? If you filled up and suddenly you have gas fumes ...I would check again.

New boat, so it is nor suddenly.. But first time with almost full tank. The gas hose looks in good condition.

New as in 1992 ? Is it possible that the tank was overfilled? What about where the hose joins the tank? When I had a *possible* fuel fill hose issue, I cut an access hole and watched while gas was pumped in. Bingo, found a leak. New hose, no leak. I am not familiar with your boat or how the tank is configured, so perhaps I am not the right person to help you. Good luck.

boat is new for me.. no, I don┬┤t think the tank is overfilled. the tank instrument said empty.. quite inaccurate! then i filled up 320 liters. Tank capacity is almost 400 liters. I will look again for the connection. quite annoying this..

Thank you anyway for your concern..

No problem...this is kind of a big deal. I am lucky that my boat came with fume alarms and they work very well. They will go off if I drip just a little gas when changing filters. This is what alerted me to my leak.

Your english is just fine ! Cheers

Thank you. I will try to pressure test the tank. What kind of pressure is it made for and for how long.

And how, should i pressure test it, which hose to connect?

I have 320 liters fresh gas in there so I is there a problem/should the tank be empty when testing?
