  • Broken Shift interrupter switch what if i run without one?-gctid384894

Forgive me for being a first time boat owner, but my shift interrupter switch is broken beyond repair, pieces where smashed and cracked to bits. I know that the switch allows for easier shifting in and out of gears, but is it possible to run the boat without a switch? if i do what kind-of damage am i looking at, imediate severge damage to gears in sterndrive or will it just be harder to shift into and out of gears? Could anyone give me a more technical desription of how the switch works?

Im trying to run the boat this weekend so just seing if it would be okay to run the boat with out a working shift interupter switch.

    Thanks yall.

Replace and adjust this, and do not operate the engine/drive until you do!

Since you asked how it works:

Hello, people! Is it possable to (jet the carbs)to run better at WOT than at idel? The reason I ask this is my motor idels real rough and smells real gasy in the water. It even leaves a oily black film on the prop, and smokes alot.Alot more than other boats I see on the lake. The prop on...

        +1

Unless you really want to be replacing a set of gears. The switch is less than $50.00 in Canada retail.

............... and/or unless you don't have an issue with running into the dock or another boat when you find that you cannot reach neutral! :thumb

No good will come from operating this until the ESA is repaired.

Agreed 100%. However if you get caught out and can think quickly enough the ignition key is your best hope..... then you have no power and a moving boat.....It don't need to say HOW I know.

Getting back into neutral is hard enough when it all works. . . .

Let us all know what you did in the end. It is nice to see a happy ending.
