Your biggest obstacle will be removing the four Bearing Box clamping collar bolts.

On the 280, these are wet area bolts, and they will no doubt give you trouble.

You DO NOT want to round out the hex head on these.

Please read the part about applying heat to the gear case before trying to loosen these.

Yep all the oil is in the bellow,I would ship it to you but I'm in Alaska LOL!!!

Yes it is the top one and i did empty oil. It would not hold any air,I had to pump it real quick to 3 pounds goes out into the drive shaft bellow as fast as I can pump it. Thanks for the vault link

From what you've posted, it's your upper unit "transmission" ( not lower unit ) that you are asking about..... correct?

The main drive gear seal (if breaching) would allow air into the drive shaft bellows.

What amount of pressure were you using for the test?

Did you drain the oil for the pressure test?

FYI: you may be due for a complete reseal if you have no history of it having been done.

I will suggest, that I see the eccentric piston seals being the cause more often than not.

I have the AQ 280 out drive. What seal is where the drive shaft goes into the lower unit housing ? Just got the boat back took it out a few times founs water in the oil. After doing a pressure check today from top and bottom the rubber cover that covers the drive shaft inflates like a balloon
