    Water pump belt on my 185-gctid382839

    Hi have a 2005 185 with a 3.0L. I went to buy a new belt for the water pump. The one they sold me is a mercruiser belt # 57-862054-Q. When I got home I compared it to my old belt. They are both the same size but the new one has little V teeth on it and the old one is flat with no teeth. Also the old one is model number 57-862054-DF.

    I thought I got the wrong one but when I went to the merc. web site they show that the new belt is the right one.

    So whats up have they cahnged belts since 2005 and can I use the new style or do I have to get a flat one with out the teeth?

    As long as the new belt is the correct fit for the V shape of the pulley it's good. The sides of the belt against the side of the pulley have to match, the teeth are not an issue.

      Ok good to know. Any idea why they changed from a flat belt to one with teeth?

        They use those on hvac equipment and I believe it keeps them cooler. Can't say that is the sole reason though.
