I have water in my oil on my 98 merc 5.0 in my 2355. I was planning on tearing it down and fixing but just got a lead on a good price for a complete 97 merc 260. Will this mate up with my current outdrive/bell housing (alpha 1 gen 2)? Is there anything special I would need to do or can I just unbolt everything and pull it out with a fork lift and drop in the new?

Thanks,

I assume the 97 is a 5.7. It's basically a direct swap - the 5.0 and 5.7 are basically the same engine save for displacement, and gearing stays the same. If it's a 5.0 MPI, also 260hp, there'd be more work - but it'd e well worth it.
Turns out the replacement engine probably has around 800 hours on it. Seems like that might be a little high. What do you think? I think I can get it for around 800 bucks. Again, it is a complete engine. He will run it and do a compression check for me.
