Doel Fin Hydrofoil on a 2455-gctid344823

I drive by a marine shop on the way home from work and noticed a 2455 (because i have the same) and see it has a Deol fin hydrofoil on it. Does this make a difference on a boat this big with trim tabs ?

Made a big difference on my previous 26' Campion Toba. It got up on plane a lot quicker, didn't have to use as much trim tab while running, got same speed with lower rpm.

Had one on a '91 2655

I say it made a big differance. She'd pop up on plane like a cork with full gear & 4-6 adults.

I was told by a local prop repair facility to NEVER install a doelfin type device on the outdrive unless i wanted to help keep them on business repairing anti-ventalation plates on outdrives. These devices place added loan on the anti-ventalation plate that they weren't designed for.

Another thing to consider, if these devices were so good, why haven't any of the outdrive/outboard manufactures included similar fins on their products?

i had one on my 1988 2455 it made a HUGE difference...i had it on for five years i never had a problem

we put one on my buddies 1997 2855 when he bought the boat..a year later we took it off to see how

different the boat would handle it didnt handle near as well with it off the boat was way more " sqirrely "

with it off and didnt get on plane near as well..so the following weekend we pulled the boat and put

it back on,the difference was night and day.

I never heard of a "anti-ventalation plate". I had the Doel fin on my 26' Campion for 18 years and didn't break anything. Don't know what your prop guy is talking about.

I put a Whale Tale XL on my 2155 pocket cruiser with the 5.0l OMC / Cobra and it was the best $50 bucks I ever spent, as one prior poster stated it jumped up on plane. The first time I got on the water with it, I was simply amazed at the difference, I liked the Whale Tale as it was all aluminum not the plastic junk you see with some of the others out there.

It improved everything from turning, staying on plane at low speed, bow wander at idle, etc etc.

I had it on for 2 seasons and never had any sign of additional wear/ stress on the outdrive at all.
