    Just bought 1980 Bayliner-gctid378840

I am brand new to Bayliners and I just bought a 1980 (2850?)

I mention 2850 with a question mark, because that is what I see on the Bayliner Tag on the Port side of boat, but everything I've seen so far on the internet is making me believe that there was a 2950 for that year, not a 2850.

    Can anyone confirm that?

Also, I am looking for a wiring diagram for the boat. It has twin Volvo 5.7 liters I believe.

    Thanks

    Ken

    Is it an Encounter?

    If so, its a 2950.

Without photos, and without more info, I think that we need to turn to this guy!

In 1980, I believe that the 2850 would have been the Bounty boat.

Does it look like any of these?

Here's the upper helm of a twin engine Merc powered Bounty.

The Encounter bow deck raises up, unlike the Bounty.

OK Ken, I can't stand it any longer!

I'll show you mine, if you'll show me more photos of yours!

There aren't too many of the Bounty boats still in service these days. Many have died due to transom and stringer issues.

In their day, I'm sure that they were quite a boat.

Rick, don't show any pictures of your engine compartment. It's almost unachievable for mere mortal man. :arr

Well, thank you, Wayne... but in all fairness, those photos were taken when everything was very fresh after a full transom core replacement and fresh gel coat! She aint quite that clean anymore. :sorrow:

Still not bad, but not like in the photos.

BTW, did we loose the OP here????

I'll post more pics as I get them...

I saw your post about transom and stringer issues. Should I be worried and what should I look for?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Ken, you will enjoy this boat. Fairly roomy, fairly wide beam, great W/A ability, and so on.

The F/B is huge..... and piloting from there is awesome.

None-the-less, this boat is comfortable for two adults, and several children if out for a week or so.

For day use, you could do more.

As for the transom and stringers..... since the boat made it this far, one of two things are existing or immanent:
                            • the boat has already undergone core replacements back when it's value made this practical.
                            • it's failing or is about to fail.... which means you must absolutely love it, in order to do this work.

There is NO fanacial recovery when doing boat projects when they are this old. So you can forget any similar ideas right now!

I'm upside down in mine.... and I knew this going into it.

                            Yes.... post photos for us.

                              Hi Ken,

We owned the Bounty (the one pictured in the fog and the fly bridge pic) for nearly 10 years and it is a great boat! We had 470's so I can't help with the wiring. Have fun!
