    Replace thremostat 1987 omc 5.4l v8 2550-gctid378626

    I have the thremostat houseing out- can i remove the old thremostat from the houseing or do i need a new houseing with a thremostat in it-

    Remove the old one from the housing and replace with the same.

      The thermostat is held in the housing with a rubber ring that fits into a groove in the housing, you have to pry out the ring with a small screwdriver to get the stat out. The ring will probably be disguised with rust so scrape that off and you should see the ring.

        If you have a 2550, you do not have a 5.4L V8.

        Might be important to know, based on what you are trying to do.

          The roller cover has 5.4l printed on it - how would i comfirm l?

            can you post a pic, it should be either a 5.0, or a 5.7 Chevy. OMC did use some Ford engines, a 5.0 and 5.8. Never saw a 5.4 though.

              Ford was well out of the marine market when the modular motors came online.

              I am not aware of any Ford (save for the odd 460, but that was only in 1987) making it under the hood of a 2550. THey were all either 5.0s (YEEESH!!!) or 5.7L GMs.
