  • Fuel/Water Seperator, Filter Advice-gctid378409

I have the Sierra Fuel/Water Seperator on board, with the filter number 18-7844. When I look at the replacement filters in the West Marine catalougue, this filter is listed as a 21 micron element for Mecury and Yamaha.

The Volvo/OMC/Cobra filter is a 10 micron and is part number 18-7989.

Should I replace it with what's on it, or should I get the 10 micron unit?

I need the experts on this...

You say: Fuel/Water Seperator..., as in singluar! Does this mean one filter for both engines, or one filter each engine?

If two filters, all they need to do is flow a decent amount for each engine.

The smaller the micron #, the smaller the particulants it will catch.

Match the adapter thread size, and the cartridge will fit the Sierra base unit.

With this style fuel filter, the water separarting ability is limited to the filter media and gravity.

If you're interested in a more true water separating filter, give the Parker RACOR a try.

These can be fit to your existing Sierra base unit.

Sierra and GLM offer this same system under their name now.
