  • Sterndrive hard to turn.-gctid372350

I pulled my drive off for winter storage, alpha 1 gen 2. Yesterday my new impeller came in and I decided it was time to get it ready to reinstall and splash, how hard should it be to turn the input shaft while in gear? I never thought to check that when I pulled it out. the prop spins easy in neutral but drop it in gear and I bet it is over 50 ft pounds to turn the input shaft...

    thanks

I have an original alpha 1 (gen 1). Mine was always super easy to turn the input shaft (IE: by the universals) as long as the prop wasnt touching anything (free spin). In gear or out of gear didn't make much difference. I remeber checking the ratio this way and don't remember any 'stickyness' or anything.

Sorry if that's not what you wan to hear.

I'd break the upper and lower to see where the difficulty is. You have to do that to change your impeller anyway. Pretty well has to be the bottom if it is neutral is ok (Gearing is in bottom end).

The only noticeable resistance your would feel would be from your water pump impeller.

        Sounds like you have issues.

False alarm...It was just the impeller kinda stuck, I guess, now that it was replaced all turns free////
