    Cruise speed for 89 - 2650 w/ 460 King Cobra-gctid557266

In sales videos from the day, the Ciera Sunbridge 2650 seems to make way quite quickly. I'm wondering how fast is realistic for the Ford power train in a hull that certainly seems designed for comfort rather than speed. I'm not looking for a speedboat, but I would like to have an idea about performance for the 1989 Bayliner that I am getting a survey completed on next week pre-purchase. Thanks for any information.

While the King Cobra was a good setup, there are parts of it that are hard to find and are very expensive. Some may not be available at all. The sales were limited which is why parts are hard to come by. If you got it cheap enough you might replace it with another drive but that likely wouldn't be cost effective.

The regular Cobra is a different story and parts are available for them.

That boat should be topped out around +-35MPH at WOT, cruising speed should be around +-25MPH at 3500rpm.

I'd be real careful with that OMC 460 KC set up B)

I had that exact setup. If you take a look at my signature you will see I definitely do not have that setup in my boat anymore. Stay away from the 460 king cobra. Ruffryder is right in the ballpark for the speed estimates though but do yourself a favour and pick a different engine/drive combo when looking for a boat.

well - three out of three replies said run don't walk away from the King Cobra, so that's what I am doing. Thanks for saving me a world of headaches.

I have cancelled the surveyor and will instead make an offer on a different Bayliner - a 92 2855 with the Merc.

Glad you ask before you bought.

              Many don't.

              And welcome to BOC.

Thanks Doug. I WILL have a Bayliner model in the water. I love the design, but I want to deal with issues I can handle.

                  cheers
