The rack steering on my 1802 Trophy gave up the ghost ( the part where you don't force it toooo much when the motor won't turn and there's a snapping sound and the wheel spins VERY freely). I got a replacement rack kit, the when I tried to pull out the old cable, realized the end that goes thru the tilt tube is too long to make the turn at the stern. So I ended up ordering a Baystar hydraulic kit, anybody got any advise / feedback on the Baystar kit. I have the 115 Merc 4 Stroke on mine, since the baystar is rated to 150 hp, I'm hoping it will be plenty big enough and I'll really like it (actually my wife does most of the driving when we're fishing, shrimping or crabbing so hopefully she'll love it.)

Yeah you'll love having the hydraulic steering, I put a Baystar system on my kicker. If you are installing it yourself........when you do the bleeding procedure dont have it connected to the motor yet, that way you can run the cylinder through its FULL range and get all the air out.

Baystar steering is a great way to go. I recently installed this system on my 2352WA (sterndrive). Then I added a Raymarine S1000 AP, and to finish it off, I connected the system to my Merc 15HP kicker with a pair of 3 way stainless ball valves that allow me to steer with the main or the kicker from the helm or autopilot. I hope to submit a thread in the near future documenting this project. PM me if you have specific questions. As you are in MLT, you should know that Western Fluid Components (Kirkland) can source the unique fittings used to make Teleflex compatible hoses custom to your needs. Good luck.
