Ken, do I read two questions here?

One regarding changing the power assist slave valve and cylinder unit to later model..... and one regarding complete hydraulic steering installation?

For the first question, you will need to talk w/ Merc and see if the later p/n assist unit is a candidate for a 1994 replacement.

As for hydraulic, see Dave's fairly recent thread. There are a several images in this thread that may be helpful.

Here is a BOC search on Hydraulic Steering.

When I changed my power package on mine I went ahead and updated to the Seastar Hydraulic steering. The parts alone were 2000. It is way better though then the old cable operated steering. Also it was easier to install onto the package then trying to make the cable operated one work. You wont regret updating it.
