    I have a 2455, 4.3l V6 Mercruiser EFI. 1999.

How difficult is it to change the impeller? do I need any special tools?

    Thanks,

    Gorde

Do a search on "impeller" There was just a thread on this and I think there may be info in the library as well.

Im guessing you have the Alpha One outdrive.

Pretty simple. Six bolts and the bottom of the outdrive pops off and you have access to the water pump cover. Youtube or get a Seloc Mercruiser manual at your favorite marine store. I think the book was less than 40 bucks.

There are a number of videos on Youtube that are helpful.

One of the issues to avoid is air getting past the pump base plate or shaft seals. Air bubbles in the cooling water will over heat the engine. My engine was running at 180 degrees until I sealed the base plate and put new seals in. Now my engine runs about 140.

Look at the youtube videos of mercruiser cooling water bubbles.
