Am buying a 1986 38 foot bayliner. Have a hard time getting the boat in gear from the flybridge. It works fine in the cockpit and have disconnected the cable from the transmission and it shifts great. I feel the problem is in the cable. It may be binding up. Has anyone had this problem and what did you do to fix it?

Replace the cable from the FB to the cabin- for that matter, you may want to replace all 4 cables (cabin to transmission, cabin to fuel, both FB to cabin).

Ironmike, please help us help you. It would be helpful to have as much information about your boat and your problem as possible. To get the attention of the right people with expertise in the area, it is important to briefly state the problem in the title. It might also be helpful (not required) to post this in the motoryachts forum. Also, the model and configuration of the boat is very important -- as it will provide insight as to where the shift cable is located, how to replace it, etc.

It's a pretty simple system, Mike- the cables are the weak link, as they stretch over time and exhibit the exact symptoms you describe. Shouldn't be a deal breaker.....

Before you pull the old cable thru tape the new cable to it that way you pull the old and the new will be in.
