Has anyone purchased one of these? Any problems? Marketed by Lowrance, B&G, Simrad.
Reading about them it seems that since the power output is so minimal that you could mount it anywhere. On my 38xx I could get rid of the radar arch mount and relocate to the bridge cowling. I realize that the higher up the radome is the greater the distance that a target can be seen. With a 36 mile range I don't think you would lose much since the curvature of the globe is also a limiting factor. The 3G is another option.
Would there be any hazards to shooting through your body with a bridge cowling mount? Manufacturer says no. I currently have a Raymarine R-20 (old 1988) with magnetron and I am always nervous when someone comes unto the bridge and hit stby so they don't get drilled throught their eyes.
Appreciate any feedback/opinions/experiences. Thanks.
