  • Running wire from the bow to the pilothouse - 1990 4588

I finally got around to getting my windlass working. Getting new solenoid installed instead of just the high current foot switches (which had both failed).
I would also like to install a toggle switch in the pilothouse so I can run it from there.
The issue is trying to find a path to run a couple of small wires from the bow where the foot switches are to the pilothouse. I have
If anyone has already done this on a 4588 or 4788, please let me know.

    It's pretty easy

For me, I would go up the underside of the valance in the master berth along the port side.

Then up through the closet into the pilothouse.

Sorry to disagree, the master closet would not be in pilothouse. Continue along port valance in berth room into the overhead storage come about 18 inches (measure) towards starboard then up into pilothouse port side storage forward of the sliding door.

        Thats OK.

The master port closet, if you drill straigth up you will come out foreward of the big supporting 2X4 in the port side of the pilothouse. Look for the other wires coiming up from the closet light as a guide.

On my 4588 the master closet is under the port locker beside the sun seating in front of pilothouse windows. Between the 2nd & 3rd porthole. Under the pilothouse is just past the 4th porthole.

            I would follow Steve's directions.

The 45 and the 47 were very diffferent - we have owned both and found out first hand

              Hmmm

I've only had the 47, and just a few months ago ran a cable to the foreward part of the master closet for the AC control panel.

Good information on the differences between the two models, and my apologies I thought they were the same.

for some reason i had it fixedin my head that the 47 was only the 45 with 2' additional in the salon.

Pleazse guys share some of the other differences.

The extra 2 feet added inches in a few locations so two people could get by each other without touching. Pity you had to give that up.

This comment nailed it! I now have the 2 wires in the pilothouse. See description with pictures below.
                  Thanks much!

In the 45, the closet is right in between the 2nd and 3rd portholes, 8" from each. This puts it right under the storage accessible from up on deck. No access from above.

I figured out how to get wires from the chain locker to the pilothouse for the windlass switch. See images to go with instructions.
                      1. Inside the master closet, upper right, you can run a fish tape forward to the chain locker.
                      2. Pull the wires back into the closet.
                      3. In the mid-stateroom, upper right behind the valance you can pry enough clearance to get something through to pull the wires. I used a large
                      tie-wrap bent to a curve.
                      4. Pull the wires into the stateroom. Run them along the back of the valance aft to the overhead storage. Drill a hole through the valance from
inside the storage so that it will miss anything on the other side. Pull the wires into the storage.
                      5. Locate a spot in the ceiling inside the storage 4" from the port side. Drill the hole up into the pilothouse.
                      6. Inside the pilothouse port side storage, the spot where the drill comes through can be seen in image 6.
