    Bayliner 38XX propeller tunnel extensions.

PROPPELLER TUNNEL EXTENSIONS FOR THE 38XX

I have one pair of 38XX propeller tunnel extensions available.

The tunnel extensions are 18" long and bolt on to the transom to extend the prop tunnels approx. 18".

They are constructed out of solid cast fiberglass and resin 18" long with a 3" flange for bolting to the hull.

The reported speed increase reported is about 1 1/2 mpg at fast cruse, that depends on the weight and weight distribution on the boat.

The tunnels fit the 38XX Bayliner's, I do not have other vessel sizes at this time.

The $650.00 per pair plus shipping.

Contact Pat Sterling on BOC "boatworkfl" and I will give you a phone number.

I have installed a pair of these on my 3888 this summer and can verify I got a 2 kn increase in top end and cruising at 8 kn rpm dropped from 2100 to 1900.

Does not sound to me that it's worth it for such modest gains.

I also pushes the water from under the swim step to straight back further.
No complaints so far, at least 15 buyers so far.

Worth it for the fuel savings in the long run.

Increase in speed, better fuel economy, helps bring the bow down, eliminates the spray pattern behind the swim platform- I think it’s one of the best additions I made to my boat for $700 bucks. I can highly recommend them. My wife says they reduced side to side roll in certain lake conditions. Lake Erie gets kinda snotty sometimes.

Pat...every time I read posts about the tunnels I get more and more interested...couple of questions...

                1. Has anybody reported or have you noticed any loss of maneuverability at docking speed...spinning/turning...?

                2. Any reports of worsening control with following seas/wakes from quarters or astern...?

                Thanks...

I have not had any noticeable reduction in docking maneuverability and as for following seas I haven't been in any nasty following seas this summer to compare to but in mild following no difference.

I have installed Pat's tunnels and confirm the claims of improved performance - including my wife and I agreeing that the boat rides better in mild seas.
I will also note that there is some loss of low speed response. But it is not significant to make any difference to me in handling the boat in docking or slow speed situations.
Regarding the following seas question the 38 has always seemed to want to plow into the backs of following seas - so I have always needed to match speed to sea conditions. I was afraid that the tunnels might make this worse - but I am still able to adjust the boat speed and reduce trim tabs to maintain good control.

Currently have no operable trim tabs and have no issue getting 16 knots. This was impossible before as our "little piggy" wouldn't do it. Too much stuff in it. I opted to bolt in, but countersunk the bolts and glassed in the whole thing. Works great and for the price is almost my best upgrade. The batteries and Magnum inverter is 1st (sorry lol ). Well based on price it is my best upgrade!!

Do you have any idea if these would fit a 4388? Or if you would be able to get ones that would fit the 4388?

They only fit the 38xx models.
