    Tachometer problems 250 Hino engine

Having trouble with one engine tachometer settling in. Is erratic when running. Changed alternator but didn't solve problem.

Check your connection at the sending unit. It may be getting ugly. The sender, I believe, is on the front port-ish, side of the engine. Another check is to swap one of the other tachs into that position. If it works okay, then the tach itself is the problem. They can be repaired by http://fariabeede.com/

Your Hino's have a tach generator mounted just fwd of the transmission bell housing top of engine. It is silver, round about an inch in diameter. They have a plastic drive spline that can fail or slip causing erratic tach.operation. Faria supplies the tach drive as well the splines. I contacted them and they sent a bag of about 10 for free! Good company, good service.
