Bayliner 3416 forward tank is leaking-gctid404077

Hello everybody

We have for 13 years a Bayliner 3416 sportfish with two Hino 220 HP.

Now we have recently a problem with a leaking fuel tank.

It┬┤s the forward fuel tank and the problem is that we can,t repair him because he┬┤s completely integrated in the hull and we can┬┤t reach him anyway to repair him.

Are there any suggestions=

Our meaning is that it is a bad case that a tank can become to leaking after several years.

Bayliner must avoid this sort of things when they build in a tank on a place you can┬┤t reach him.

It┬┤s a tank with 190 gallon and you must almost demolish the ship to loose it.

I recall having a fuel tank fixed with a product that goes inside the fuel tank. Seems they needed the tank out, as they needed to pour some product in, and then move the tank about to have it cover completely. It seems very likely that the leak is in the bottom of your tank though, so it might be worth while looking at opening up an inspection port, or creating one, and using this type of product.

Hi, I got the same boat. How have you come to the conclusion it is leaking? Can it be an old rubber hose or similar? That happened to me last summer. The fuel fill hoses where so brittle and in bad shape that when I filled on diesel fuel it started to leak into the bilge.

But, if it is a real leak, do you need both tanks? Could you only use the rear one? Then you would need to install a return valve for your SB enhine as it returns to the forward, broken tank. To remowe the forward tank is, as you say, also in my opinion impossible to do. Maybe get it out in pieces somehow but not getting a new one in.

Solution40, how did you paint or change the tabletops to white? Is it working OK? I looked at you picture gallery.

I had thesameproblem with my. 3416. Had to premove the salon floor remove and install a new tank. Big job but it can be done $$$

Interesting, do you have more details how you did it, what was required? Time, cost? did you do it your self f.ex?nIt looks like it will be at the agenda for me also at some point.

Everything is attainable, just the work to do it is sometimes a rather big job. I do not have a 3416 but did have a leak in my potable water tank located under the floor. Unfortunately I had to cut out the floor which gave me the incentive to replace it with teak flooring. A skill saw and jig saw and some thought is all that is required not to mention the time. Worst part was peeling the carpet off, don't know what kinda glue they use but is sure holds like the dickens.

Hello Mag,

I didn't paint the table tops but i put a new formica over it.

I did it with all the tops those are in our boat.

Hello everybody,

I alrady have replace the leaking tank for a new one.

It was a hell of a job.

I cut out the old tank in pieces first and then i make a mall for the new tank, so that i was shure that i can put him back in the hole under the floor.

The old tank was 775 litres and i make a new one with a capacity of 400 litres. ( almost even big als the one between the two engines )

Now i've got a total capacity of 825 litres ( was 1200 litres before )

The mistake Bayliner has make by manufacturing the ship is that they laminated the full tank with fiberglass to the hull.

So it can't work when the ship is in raw wather and then after several years the weldings of the aluminium tank breaks.

I have the new tank close in with rubber matts so it can work by great tensions in raw water.

I have already also a fiberglass roof above the half off my cockpit installated.

I have made the roof bij my own from light wood construction and after that i put 5 mm fiberglass over it and paint it in the same color as the boat.

I will be place photo's from it soon.
