What's supposed to be in the mufflers?

I got the hose of my starboard motor (Hino EH700) and looked to see if the muffler was as gunked up as the hose and...nothing. It's a straight shot, fiberglass shell. Is anything supposed to be in there? Might this help explain why my boat is annoyingly loud (to me)?

    Thanks!

I don't know for sure, but when I scoped mine from the outside I saw a baffle, definitely not a straight through to the inside hose.

Would the lack of baffles help or hurt performance? How about sound deadening?

        thanks!

If these are the inline mufflers they should have baffles, if there are the water lift mufflers the input tube goes to the bottom and the exhaust bubbles up through the water to the exit tube.

I had mine off a couple of years ago and they had a series of flat (plywood???) plates inside on an angle.
I wasn't sure as to mount them facing up down or sideways...

Interesting. These are inline mufflers...the giant pipe looking ones on a Hino EH700. Can these be repaired?

Seems to me that they would need to be cut in half to install new baffles; doubt you can find someone willing to do this unless you do it yourself.

They are made of fibreglass, so repairing them is easy

What pipe size is your muffler? I have a new 5" in Alaska I can bring back in Sept.
I believe it is a vernatone.
