    Bayliner 38 insurance question

Well it's insurance time again. I does seem to be getting quite expensive. I'm in Canada and it's $1000.00 for a year. Just wondering if that is ballpark or should I be looking around?

    Thanks

How much are you insuring for? If you're insuring for 50,000 your rate should be under $500

Should be able to be under 1% of the declared value for diesel.

This may seem like a “duh” question but, are you looking at boat insurance or yacht insurance. You want insurance that is an agreed value Yacht policy, boat insurance is more like a car policy. Second, do you have gas engines? I was shocked when I received my quote for our 38 and it was significantly lower than for our twin gas Encounter. Understand I’m applying “down south” products to you northern guys, but I don’t know that there are many of the differences that would be with a car.

The boat is insured for 46000, my brother has the same diesel boat and pays just over 800.
I suppose what I am really needing is the underwriter you are using in BC if your rate is somewhat less than the $1000 my broker is looking for.
I am up for renewal next week so would help to know what the competition is doing.

I use HUB International agency (Burnaby BC) and the underwriter is Lloyd's through Harlock Murray at just under 1% of the insured replacement value. Includes Yacht club/Power Squadron/Claim Free deductions. $3 million liability and $2 million uninsured boat protection, dinghy/motor etc.
