I am refurbishing a 2004 Meridian 490. Currently there is no shower pump in the guest or mid-cabin shower so I don't know what was there before. There is no room for a sump the likes of an Atwood etc. Can anyone advise what might have been there originally?

The mid cabin shower does not use a sump box. Mine has a gulper pump and directs the water out of a side through-hull. The water pools in the bottom of the shower until the pump is manually switched on. It will continue to run until manually switched off. The switch is on the cabinet face below the sink. If you were sitting on the toilet it is directly to the right on the cabinet faceplate.2001 Bayliner 4788, Cummins 370's

Thats what mine uses as well. I’ve always thought an automated solution would be better, but accessing it for maintenance would be a bear.

Access wise, if you are not a fan of the built in Vacume, you could remove it, leaving plenty of room for a sump box and maintenance access

In the companionway the two smoked glass sliding glass pains give access to the sump for that fwd shower and both sinks and toilet parts on the left side and the entire right side s/b a built in vacuum which came with enough hose to reach throughout the boat.
