I noticed that you are a relatively new member to the BOC forum. Please complete your profile and signature. This will make it easier for others to help you.

I have wondered about the best method for such a service. I hope not to have remove an entire engine anytime soon in our 3587.

I speculate that it might be a piece by piece disassembly in the boat in order to get the block assemble small enough to fit out a window opening.

I would expect to remove the galley, dinette and floors sections on the port side.

Please keep this post updated with your solution.

On some larger boats many yards will cut a hole in the side, and re glass and gel. Many times this is far less expensive and easier than removing the interior.

I suggest you speak with Tom at Inlet Marine in Port Moody BC (604) 936-4602. They have replaced engines on a couple of 4087's in the last two or three years. I'm sure that they would be happy to give you advice.

If you do a search a follow BOCer posted some details, including Pics on removing the Cummins 330 on his boat. It was either a 3988 or 4087. He took most of the external parts off, used a come along to get the engine out, then a forklift with a boom to remove from the boat.

I've seen a couple of them lifted out. Often they'll boom in through a window to get the stripped block above the deck plates, and then sit it down temporarily to lift it out through the rear doors.
