This varies wildly due to so many variables; when , where, how long, sail or power, long open expanses or docks to docks.

A good starting point for a single captain with no crew is in the area of $300/day which could end up being much higher.

To that you need to add: fuel, food, dockage, travel to and from each end, and any other 'boat' costs along the way.

Checking out captains for certs and insurance is part of the process.
    +1

Make sure that the boat is in top shape and set aside some money for contingencies: breakdown along the way, weather diversions, etc. I have a friend that ferries boats up and down the west coast of the US. There have been a few of times that has had to hole-up in a port along the way for weather or maintenance. In each case the boat owner had to pay hotel costs, maintenance, and other expenses. In a few cases the repairs needed were so extensive that the boat had to be left somewhere for days and the owner had to pay round-trip air fare for the crew.

Does anyone have any intel on what it costs to pay someone to move a boat? I understand its typically inclusive of meals etc but not sure what daily or miles rate captains would charge?
