    Shifter Detents-gctid825636

Would like advice to tighten the shifter detent

on 4087. They do detent, but too easily move from neutral to in-gear. There must be an adjustment somewhere?

They are adjustable, but the shifter has to be partially removed to get at it.

On the side of the unit just under plate, you will see a screw which when tightened compresses a spring on to a ball bearing.

Boatbum is correct, but if I remember correctly, when I did mine, you only adjust the detent at one station. The manual is on the boat so I cannot look it up for you

Superior Diver is correct also. On my 38, the detent adjustment is on the flybridge controls.... as is the "start in gear" protection switch

Thanks for the advice. I assume that entire shifter mechanism is bolted from underneath. By loosening those bolts I can raise the assembly to gain access to the adjusting screw.

          Thanks again.
