    Good day fellow boaters,

    I have a 1993 Bayliner 3888 with twin Hino WO4TI engines. The starboard has a vibration between 1400 and 1800 RPM. I have adjusted the coupling and didn't make a difference. Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Idle is fine and 2000 to wide open throttle is also vibration free.

    It sounds to me like either a ding in the prop or a worn cutlass bearing.

    Please add some information about your boat, like you did in this post, and where (generally) you are. There may be a member nearby with some great local knowledge.

      I would carefully check each engine mount with a prybar for separation of one or more of the rubber inserts. It is harder than you think to find even a completely failed mount as the weight forces them back into place.

      -I am assuming you have 4 blade props and not 3 blade props correct?

      - when you checked the coupling alignment you also checked it at 90 and 120 degrees yes?

        I have 4 blade props that are perfect appearing.

        I have checked the alignment at 90 and 120 degrees. Is fine.

        I checked the motor mounts and seem fine but any advice would be great. Appreciate all your input. The boat is at Bay Harbor Marina in Colchester, Vermont.

          I'm assuming everything is clean? One trip out I had a weird vibration that would fade in and out at like 9 knots. Slowed down it went away, more throttle it seemed to go away...never figured what caused it other then I scraped and scrubbed every inch of my running gear and it never came back...
          . . .It places the lotion in the Basket. . .and that basket happens to be in a 1987 Bayliner 3870 w/ Hino 175's

            I swam under the boat last weekend and everything is spotless. Thanks for the input.

            I'm going to have Saba Marine check it out and see if anything pops out to them.

              Do the engines show any sign of a miss? Can you still reach WOT as a brief test in gear? In other words this has not affected you max rpm.

                Did you check the alignment with the boat in the water? If it was in the water, had it been in the water for more than a day?

                My 3788 had new cutless bearings installed last year. The shafts were aligned while it was out of the water. The alignment was checked after it went back in the water and was run for a few minutes. I used the boat a week later and noticed an unusual vibration at certain RPMs from the port engine. The alignment was checked again. The starboard engine was OK, but the port engine was off. It was realigned and the vibration disappeared.

                  Yet another possible vibration cause are loose shaft zincs. Double check they are tight and not worn to an offset shape.

                    Had a diver tell me about seeing shaft zincs where one half was eaten away severely and the other half still 90%. Owner reported vibration problems prior to diver replacing shaft zincs.

                      The engines run beautiful. Good power 3000 RPM WOT. I ran last weekend between 2000 and 2500 RPM. Smooth and sounding great. Thanks for replying.

                        FYI...My boat does not have shaft zincs. I replaced all zincs with aluminum this spring. One on each trim tab and the large one

                        on the stern.

                          I checked the alignment and adjusted a bit while in the water for the summer. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Having a mechanic come next Tuesday to troubleshoot.

                            I had the mechanic re-align shaft and found it to be off. The vibration is better but not perfect. When the boat is pulled, I'm having both props balanced. The mechanic suggested this. Makes sense to me.

                              Had a vibration issue at low RPM on my 32. Being frustrated after checking what I thought was everything, found that the keyway on a prop shaft had some scale in it causing the prop to not seat all the way forward on the taper of the shaft. Cleaned it out and vibration was gone.
