    Noland RS11 with 6BTAs 4788-gctid824494

    I picked up an RS11 (analog to NMEA2000 converter) on craigslist of all places. The latest hardware version too. I'll pickup a second unit to cover more gauges if I'm happy with the first unit.

    Would anyone with an RS11s on a Cummins 5.9 6BTA care to share their configuration file with me? Pretty please?

      For what it's worth, I use an Actisense EMU1-. I found it to be more accurate than the Noland that I used >5 years ago and easier to configure.

        I am getting ready to order and install the Actisense EMU-1 on my 4788 also. I am reading the install instructions and they say to connect it to the same power source as the ignition. If the engines are on different power sources then I have to use 2 EMU-1s. Can you tell me where you took power from for your install?

        For the tachometers, you set the PPS (Pulses per second) at 159 (159 teeth in the flywheel).

        Which other sensors are you going to pick up with the Noland?

        Temperature is fairly easy -- start with your engines cold and simply use the ambient temperature (or use a laser temp gun). Start the engine, take the voltage reading at ambient (e.g. 70F). Take the boat out for a run and get it up to full temp and take the voltage reading again (eg 160F). For the Noland you just double click on the voltage box and it will take a current reading.

        Fuel tanks are done the same way. Take a reading before the next tank fill. Take the voltage and enter the current tank level, then fill the tanks and take the measurement again.

        Don't forget to hit Save after each entry.

          I have the module installed and talking well to the network. Very Cool. Both the Garmin and Raymarine flashed up with engine data right away.

          I have three issues:

          1) Both engine RPM data streams drop at about ~2200 RPM with P+ & P- connected to the tach. I see others reporting a similar problem with the RPMs reading at higher engine speeds. What is the solution?

          2) I have the RS11 powered off the Ignition and grounded to the main buss. The voltage drops on the ignition circuit when the preheaters engage, causing the RS11 data to move around (Fuel tank, C-Temp and O-Pressure readings all drop). It's very annoying. Those of you with preheaters, how do you get around the voltage fluctuations?

          3) I have older Bennett Trim Tab Indicators (IC2110). Has anyone been able to connect Bennett trimtab indicators to the RS11? It would be awesome to have trim tab position on the flybridge display.

            Can you feed the power to the RS11 from your house system rather than off the ignition? You might find you get a more stable voltage than running it off the start battery system. It might clean up your RPM issue as well as the reference voltage when running off the ignition would likely be impacted with higher RPMs.

            I have mine running off the house system and so far, no issues with the RPMs since installing.
