Any estimate of the cost to pull an 8K Westerbeke heat exchanger, clean it at radiator shop and reinstall it?

Did mine without the rad shop. Used welding rod and compressed air to clear the mini-tubes of salt and zinc. Rad shop would be more thorough and would pressure test. Remove hoses and two clamps to release the tube and then take off the end-caps. Takes under and hour.

Mickey,
Your boat is the same vintage as mine. My 12.5kw exchanger went out on me last year just as we were heading north.
They make aftermarket units in the Seattle area but won't retail them. You can get them through discount marine or a couple other places on line..
I think mine was about $400. The 8k is less maybe 300 ish.
It may be cost effective to just replace it as long as you're paying for the labor to R&R the old one anyway.
I picked up mine in Eagle Harbor and changed it out while crabbing in Garrison Bay.

I took our westerbeke 8 kw heat x to the reputable local radiator shop for cleaning, leak repair and testing (about $75) a couple of years ago. Reinstalled and still leaked a little. Took it back and they fixed it again. Reinstalled no leaks. Now leaking again from approximately the same spot. Priced new one from Westerbeke at about $800. Ouch! Time to replace so this is a timely thread.

Most Westerbeke engine parts are from other suppliers. Westerbeke is very secretive about their engine suppliers so they can mark up replacement parts to ridiculous levels..
SeaKamp makes for Westerbeke. I bought from Manifold Warehouse in Vancouver BC and it was shipped direct from SeaKamp. good price.
Sendure makes for Cummins.

The $300.00 unit I bought from Mr Kool was exactly the same as the OEM exchanger I took out. I am sure they were manufactured by the same company.
