I would like to replace the fly bridge switch panel of my 4087. I must have used some kind of cleaner on the rubber coated switches and it has caused the rubber to break down and become very soft and sticky, almost like tar. Does anyone have a switch panel they'd like to sell? Or, as an alternative, does anyone know how I can "re-cure" the damaged rubber?
The same thing happened to my trim tab rocker switches. Rubber went all gummy. I just peeled the rubber boots off and hope to find replacement boots for those rocker switches. ight]
Call Mike (some sailor) at A-Plus Mobile Graphics if you want to re-face your dash or switch panels. He can offer a finish which is light years better than the factory original.
If it's only the surface of the switches you are worried about, paint them with Krylon Fusion paint which bonds to plastic and rubber. Better yet, why not just replace the switches, they are really inexpensive. You could upgrade to switches with lights too.
Thank you for both of your suggestions. The Krylon Fusion paint sounds like a good "quick fix" until I can purchase replacement switches. Do you by chance have a suggestion for the make of the replacement switches? Is it something commonly found in an electrical supply house? Thanks again! Safe boating!!!
I have just completed replacing all the switches in my 4087 as they did the same thing, seems like a common problem. I purchased mine from anglers marine in orange county. they are a bayliner parts dealer and can get the OEM substitutes and they worked great.
