    32xx Starboard fuel tank leak-gctid813704

First, where would one buy a starboard fuel tank to fit a 1986 3270? Second, has any one ever coated a bad tank with a quarter inch of epoxy and glass reinforcement on bottom and all four sides? Any thoughts on whether this method would work on a carefully cleaned and lightly abraded aluminum tank? I was told by a local "expert" that new tanks are required to be coated with an approved material to prevent dissimilar metals corrosion. True? or just a good idea.

New tanks can be made, Coastline could have made the originals for your boat. Once the tank is out it's likely quicker to just replace it, might be a wash cost wise as well with all the prep and glasswork to be done and Would it meet coastguard regulations

IMO coating a new tank is an excellent idea, not sure if it's a requirement or not.

I just did that this spring. Took the old tank out and coated it with 3 coats of InterProtect 2000E. But it is much easier to just put in a new tank. However my new tank would not fit in my 3270.

Coastline in Bellingham can make them. Takes 3-6 weeks. About $1000. I have a new, never used one that I can deliver in the Puget Sound area for a reasonable price.

What number is on your tank? The one I have is a Coastline 1004.

Would be glad to talk to you about the tank replacement process and some of the things I learned.

you will need to remove your hino to get it out, did both of mine before leaking started, they lasted 25 yrs so when the new ones are bad there will not be much left of the old Bayliner.

I had a leak in my 85 3270 110hp hino. Pulled the motor and tank. The tank looked brand new. (great lakes boat). Never found a leak (even pressure tested). Leak came from a hose above take from fill area.

Cost me $1300. to pull motor and tank (rebuild supports). It gave me chance to check stringers etc.....bone dry.

I did just have another issue with the short rubber fuel hose that connects to the injector rack. It was spraying a fine mist leak. I made a bad mistake and used a standard piece of gas fuel hose. Had a near disaster. The hose split open. I didn't know there was that much pressure. Does anyone have a recommendation of what type of hose to use ?

          Thx Dave

Well it appears at present that I have located a tank. I had a visit with an acquaintance who is the Chief Engineer of Maintenance for NOAA Pacific Fleet on the best way to do the job. When I have the tank and yard time I will keep everybody posted with pictures on how it is going to happen.
