    Norcold 0061-gctid811187

My Norcold 0061 refer is approx. 8 or 10 years old and requires a setting of 4,25(5 is coldest) to get the interior temp to 40 degrees F. Is this normal? Is this unit serviceable i.e. can refridgerant be added?

How do you get the trim off to get to the screws to pull it out?

Our NovaCool is similar age, but since new has had difficulty keeping the temperature below 40 on warm days, even with its internal fan running. The temperature sensor seems to be too influenced by outside temperature. For example, a setting of 2 when the outside temperature is 40 will keep the refer near freezing, but when the outside temperature is 80 the setting of 4 will barely keep the temperature at 40. The freezer section is also marginal in keeping food frozen on warm days.......So, I suspected two problems - inadequate cooling capacity (perhaps caused by inadequate refrigerant) and faulty design of temperature sensor. Early on we had a technician look at it and he though if the top plate accumulated frost there was enough refrigerant??? However it does seem dependable, always performs the same.

On my Norcold I had the refrigeration school here install a piercing valve in the line and flush it out several times, then refill the system with the proper refrigerant about 12 years ago.

On my system they added 1/4 oz more than specified, now it will freeze if set too low, have not had an issue with cooling since.

Our Norcold was a liability. It wasn't hard to get it out and install an Isotherm. The new reefer keeps a solid temperature, we had to (still have one on FB) adjust thermostats a couple of times a day just to keep up and finally, on 5, couldn't get below 42.
